Nearly 8 Tons of Drugs Destroyed

Phnom Penh: Cambodia marked Monday’s International Day Against Drug Abuse by burning nearly 8 tonnes of drugs that have been seized by police over the past year.

The ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Director General of the National Authority for Combating Drugs, General Chuon Sovann, as well as the Chairman of the Authority, Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Ke Kim Yan. Also in attendance were representatives of the relevant ministries and authorities.

The total amount of drugs burned was 4,3 tons. The drugs chemically neutralised amounted to 3,2 tons.

According to the National Anti-Drug Authority, the drugs incinerated were: 291 kilograms of heroin, 5 kilograms of methamphetamine, 8 kilograms of marijuana, 10 kilograms of carnitine, 626 kilograms of methamphetamine, 41 kilograms of ketamine, 13 kilograms of Nimetazepam, 2.5 kilograms of chemical compounds and 812 kilograms of various other drug-related chemicals.
